Yorkville City Council Appoves a Water Rate Increase
At the Monday City Council meeting on April 22, 2024, the board approved a bi-monthly water rate increase. The reason for the increase is to fund the switch from the current aquifer sourced water to Lake Michigan sourced water that is estimated to cost around 120 million dollars. Alderman Chris Funkhouser made a motion to reduce the proposed base rate and increase the volumetric rate, placing the larger portion of the increase based on water usage. The bi-monthly base rate would increase from $24 to $33 and an increase of the volumetric rate from $4.80 to $5.80 per 100 gallons. The board unanimously voted on the increase.
