Pipes Freeze and Burst Again at the Yorkville Library

A little over a year ago the Yorkville Public Library was closed due to water pipes freezing and bursting. At that time, the Library was dealing with ongoing HVAC issues that were a major contributing factor to the water damages. In January of this year, the Library closed again, due to issues with the HVAC system and pipes freezing and bursting. The damages were minimal this time around and limited to the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room area. The Library spent $1356 for the necessary repairs to the damaged pipes. At the February 12, 2024, Library Board of Trustees meeting, Library Director Shelly Augustine informed the Trustees that she now has remote access to monitor the thermostat in that area of the Library. She will also receive an alert on her phone if the area drops below a set temperature. The Library will also be looking into a secondary source of heat for that particular portion of the building. The HVAC system has been on the Yorkville Public Library Board of Trustees agenda since June of 2022. The Board continues to discuss the major costs and plan associated with the repairs to the system.
