Kendall Township Appoints a Trustee to Fill the Vacancy After Zach Turnbow Resigns
Kendall Township Clerk, Steve Grebner, administers the oath of office to newly appointed Trustee Tim Karales
A Kendall Township Trustee seat was left vacant after Zach Turnbow resigned, following the discovery that he was serving for at least a year while living outside of the district. Turnbow has reimbursed Kendall Township $980.33 in compensation, based upon the September 20, 2023, owner occupied exemption applied to his Bristol Township property. It is still unclear whether Turnbow lived at his Bristol Township property between the purchase date of November 21, 2022, and when the exemption was applied - making it unclear if further reimbursement is required.
With the Kendall Township Trustee seat open until the 2025 consolidated election, the Township Board allowed qualified, interested candidates to present themselves at the November 19, 2024, Township meeting for potential appointment to the position. Candidates Scott Harmon, Tony Graff, Michael Brzoska, and Tim Karales gave short presentations on their qualifications and reasons for seeking the position. After a closed session discussion, the Board unanimously voted to appoint Tim Karales to fill the vacancy. Karales took his oath of office that evening, before taking his seat.
All Kendall Township positions will be up for election during the consolidated race ending April 1, 2025. According to Township records, seven candidates filed to run for the four Trustee positions. Incumbents Don Hirsch, Carolyn Pottinger, and Doug Thanepohn will be seeking re-election. Candidates Scott Harmon, Chris Assell, Dan Assell, and Tim Karales are also seeking Kendall Township Trustee positions.
Incumbents Steve Gengler (Kendall Township Supervisor), Steve Grebner (Kendall Township Clerk), and Doug Westphal (Kendall Township Highway Commissioner) will be running unopposed.
No candidate filed for the Kendall Township Assessor position. Currently the position of Township Assessor is filled by a hired employee, Cathy Scalise.
