Citizen Lifesaving Award Presented by BKFD
At the July 11, 2024 Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District Board meeting, Derek Johnson was presented the Citizen Lifesaving Award for lifesaving measures (CPR) administered to a 63 year old male on June 25, 2024, prior to the arrival of first responders. Several members of the BKFD crew were also presented with Lifesaving Awards: Christine Valaski, Haylee Jackson, Brendan Ditchman, Tyler Ament, Nicholas Zych and Collin Blockinger.
During the Board meeting, Assistant Chief Ryan Cihak explained that the BKFD crew evaluated and confirmed the condition of the unresponsive male and took over CPR upon arrival. They utilized life saving equipment and measures until the 63 year old male had a pulse and began to breathe on his own. After becoming responsive, he was quickly moved to a medic unit and transported to Rush Copley in Aurora.
Board President Ken Johnson, along with Assistant Chief Ryan Cihak, presented the awards. Assistant Chief Ryan Cihak thanked the board for recently approving the purchase of the Lucas Device used in this lifesaving event.
